This beautiful artisan woodcraft butcher block cutting board is handmade from three types of wood cherry, walnut and maple. This is an end grain cutting board which resists warping. The dark wood is black walnut. The wood with a slight red tint is cherry. The light wood is maple. It is meticulously sanded, then finished with mineral oil and bees wax which give this board a glass like smoothness. The artisan who makes these boards first gave them as gifts to his family. Much to his dismay many of them have chosen to display rather than use the boards because they are so beautiful. The advantage to having an end grain board is their durability. They are warp and scratch resistant. With proper care they will last and last. The scratch resistant quality of end grain cutting boards comes from the wood fibers natural ability to move. As your knife crosses over the surface, the fibers will move apart then back into place. This will help protect your knives from dulling and chipping.
